Yams (Release 4)
It feels crass to spell it out, but I will. R&B is truly built for romance. Love is the dominant thread throughout the genre. Tracks built for lovemaking are among some of the more outstanding songs. And lovemaking playlists are always some of the more fun playlists (for obvious reasons lol).
So let me introduce a playlist series that I call “yams.” (love a good play on words if you can’t tell.) “yams” is meant to be a livelier playlist that is focused on romance, but with the sentimentality turned down a bit. Just some good fun.
This is the fourth release of “yams.” (Where are the first three releases? They’re coming, and anyways, time and order are social constructs.) I kick things off with “Don’t x No Idea,” which is a mix of “Don’t” by Bryson Tiller and “No Idea” by Don Toliver. I do another call back to “Don’t” later on too–even though it’s been almost 10 years since that song was released, it still knocks. Also, I was heavy-handed with featuring Kehlani in this playlist. But I think her vocals (and song selection more broadly) are a great combination of sweet, sultry, and lightness. So you’ll hear her on “Clothes Off” (feat. kwn), “Slow Dance” (feat. DIXSON), “Sucia (feat. Jill Scott & Young Miko)” and on a remix of Victoria Money’s “Touch Me.” The whole playlist knocks, but some of my favorites are “the catch up” by Ambre (she’s a sensational talent imho), “Lovers Hill” by IAN LOVLY, which has great amapiano elements (that log drum…), and “Can’t Take It” by N’shai Iman, which is a great combination of fast and slow (idk, it just feels like that somehow lol).
I could talk about the playlist more, but I think it simply deserves a listen. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did putting it together.

(Note: the YouTube version is missing “Caliente’ by Ari LaShell, “4K” by Duckwrth, and “Room for 2” by On The Radar. Heavy losses, but seems like I haven’t sorted these YouTube playlists out quite right.)
