Note: This is a bit late and after the season. But better late than never…
I never took note of it until a family member complained: “Why is Christmas music always so sleepy? I want something with energy.”
Once I heard that I started to notice that a lot of our Christmas favorites were very mellow, slow, and lower energy. That didn’t make them bad – in fact, I like most of those songs. But it definitely brings vibes more down to earth. So I thought, “well there are some tracks that are more high-tempo and high-energy. I might as well create a playlist even if it’s pretty short.” And that’s what this playlist is. A set of more upbeat Christmas tunes.
Festive Szn has almost 80 tracks and lasts about 3 1/2 hours. I tried to get a flavoring of older soul/doo-wop sounds along with modern R&B. There is a flavoring of pop and rock in there, but it isn’t much really. And there’s a dash of gospel- I mean it is Christmas, right? I think overall it all fits together really nicely.
There are some real highlights for me but the first 10 or so tracks are some of my modern favorites. I really enjoyed Jordin Sparks’ Christmas album called [x], so you will see her well represented. But beyond that there are a lot of staples and some ones you may never have heard before.
If you enjoy it, share it with a loved one. And let me know what songs I may have missed that you would put on your own festive Szn playlist!
