Aura III by ELHAE
I’m late. “AURA III” came out in 2021 and I’m just listening to it. What can I say?
Ever since I heard “Doesn’t Matter” from the “All Have Fallen” album, I’ve enjoyed ELHAE’s music. “AURA III” is no different. Overall, it’s got a decidedly chill vibe which I think has matched ELHAE’s sound lately.
The first track, “Fun Fact,” is a banger featuring Rick Ross and has a perfect summer vibe to it. The album smoothes out to a pretty popular single featuring Masego called “My City.” I really like the earthy sonics of that track – feels like walking into a hazy lounge of easy going personalities. “Sick of Playing” has a wonderful acoustic sound to it as well. I love the echo on the vocals. “In My Corner” continues the dreamy vibes with a sample of Carl Thomas’ “I Wish” and has a wistful but well-rounded romanticism that I would like to hear a bit more often in R&B.
“Only One” and “I Can See” remind me of the bombastic but chill sound that I think ELHAE is really good at. But don’t sleep on the remaining tracks either. “Fun Fact Ballad” is brilliant rendition of the “Fun Fact” track I mentioned earlier. Almost feels like it could have been an interlude preceding the Rick Ross featured track. To round it out, I really enjoyed the middle section of “U Know,” “Separated,” and “Face.” They remind me of nights when I was driving on the freeway headed home after seeing a shorty.
I’ve got no knocks on the album. Just another quality outing from the brother.
